Del Rio, Texas – The City of Del Rio is in the path of totality for a total solar eclipse taking place on April 8,
2024. This is a historical event that will not be repeated until 2044. The total solar eclipse will trace a narrow path of totality across 13 U.S. states. Del Rio is one of the very first cities in the United States to experience the total solar eclipse. Del Rio will offer a celestial show you won’t want to miss at the Texas Solar Eclipse Fest!
“The economic impact of this event will be extraordinary,” stated Mayor Al Arreola. “We are expecting a large number of visitors, due to our great weather odds. Del Rio has some of the best chances for clear skies in the nation for this event. We look forward to working with all our local partners; the County, Chambers of Commerce, school district, hospitals, and local business to make sure all our residents and guests have an unforgettable experience.”
The Del Rio Convention & Visitors Bureau has spearheaded a task force committee designated to the planning of this multi-day event. Members of this task force committee offer well-rounded and resourceful expertise needed for such a massive event. City and County staff members, local media, Chamber of Commerce board members, and
experienced solar eclipse event planners have begun the planning necessary to host amazing events for the community and welcomed tourists.
Unlike other border cities who are in the path of totality, Del Rio offers a dramatic lakefront shoreline with phenomenal scenery, plentiful recreational activities, and natural sites. Del Rio is a true oasis in the desert. A Texas treasure, Del Rio boasts picturesque water views, both lake and spring, the oldest operating winery in Texas, a lush golf course with views of the San Felipe Springs, an up-and-coming historical downtown district and lively culture
within. The City of Del Rio is committed to ensuring Del Rio is prepared for the 2024 Total Solar
Eclipse. To better plan for safety management and allocation of resources, the planning
committee is asking those interested in hosting an event or sponsoring the festival to fill
out our online form. This will allow us to account for all activities happening in Del Rio
and Val Verde County, as well as, add these events to the official Texas Solar Eclipse Fest

The Del Rio CVB and planning committee will be hosting two meetings on March 21, 2023 at the Del Rio Civic Center, Red Oak Ballroom for hotels and restaurants to begin preparing them for this mass arrival event. Hotel managers should plan to attend at 2:00pm and restaurant managers and owners will be welcomed in at 3:30pm. Future informational meetings for gas stations, banks, and grocery stores will be scheduled at a later date.2 The Texas Solar Eclipse Fest will host renown live entertainment, activities and feature the giveaway of a brandnew Mitsubishi Eclipse sponsored by the Khoury Auto Group! We are 418 days away from the Great American Solar Eclipse and look forward to hosting the first ever Texas Solar Eclipse Fest in Del Rio and Val Verde County!

Del Rio, Texas – La ciudad de Del Rio está en camino a la totalidad de un eclipse solar total que tendrá lugar el 8 de abril.
2024. Este es un evento histórico que no se repetirá hasta 2044. El eclipse solar total trazará un camino estrecho de totalidad a través de 13 estados de EE. UU. Del Rio es una de las primeras ciudades de los Estados Unidos en experimentar el eclipse solar total. ¡Del Rio ofrecerá un espectáculo celestial que no querrá perderse en el Texas Solar Eclipse Fest!
“El impacto económico de este evento será extraordinario”, afirmó el alcalde Al Arreola. “Esperamos una gran cantidad de visitantes, debido a nuestras excelentes probabilidades de clima. Del Rio tiene algunas de las mejores posibilidades de cielos despejados en la nación para este evento. Esperamos trabajar con todos nuestros socios locales; el condado, las cámaras de comercio, el distrito escolar, los hospitales y las empresas locales para garantizar que todos nuestros residentes e invitados tengan una experiencia inolvidable”.
La Oficina de Convenciones y Visitantes de Del Rio ha encabezado un comité de grupo de trabajo designado para la planificación de este evento de varios días.
