La mamĆ” de la CĆ³nsul de MĆ©xico en Del RĆo, Texas, Paloma VillaseƱor, cumpliĆ³ 100 aƱos.
La seƱora Luz MarĆa Vargas de la Cruz naciĆ³ el 20 de abril de 1922. La danza fue su pasiĆ³n.
Su primera actuaciĆ³n fue en el cumpleaƱos de su papĆ”, antes de cumplir los 4 aƱos, delante de sus jefes en la CompaƱĆa de trenes Pullman.
EstudiĆ³ la primaria en el Colegio Franco-InglĆ©s y estudiĆ³ su carrera en la Escuela de Danza del Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes.
Al recibirse a los 15 aƱos, el Director de Bellas Artes se negaba a firmar su tĆtulo de Maestra de Danza pues todavĆa usaba tobilleras y nadie la respetarĆa.
La Directora de la Escuela de Danza, Nelly Campobello, le dijo al Director que āo le agregaban a su carrera 2 aƱos o le ponĆan a esta niƱa unas mediasā. Finalmente, logrĆ³ que firmaran su tĆtulo.
La mandaron a la Escuela Nacional de EducaciĆ³n FĆsica (ENEF) pero el Director dijo que no podrĆa dar clase a un grupo de 28 muchachos mĆ”s grandes que ella. La autorizĆ³ a condiciĆ³n de vigilarla sentado un mes al fondo del salĆ³n.
Era una de las primeras mujeres profesionistas, una de las primeras mujeres trabajando como profesional, de las primeras mujeres que manejĆ³ y pudo comprar un coche y, sin duda, una mujer que abriĆ³ puertas a las futuras generaciones de mujeres.
El primero de septiembre de 1947 fue dada de alta en la SecretarĆa de EducaciĆ³n FĆsica y designada Profesora de EducaciĆ³n FĆsica.
Entre 1955 y 1985 fue Profesora de Danza, de TĆ©cnicas de la Danza ClĆ”sica y Bailables Regionales, de EducaciĆ³n FĆsica, Jefa del Ćrea ArtĆstica, Supervisora de Profesores de EducaciĆ³n FĆsica, Gestora para Registro de TĆtulos y CĆ©dulas Profesionales y Miembro de la ComisiĆ³n de Servicio Social en la Escuela Nacional de EducaciĆ³n FĆsica y la Escuela Nacional de Maestros, siempre designada por el Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes (INBA) y avalada por la SecretarĆa de EducaciĆ³n PĆŗblica (SEP).
TambiĆ©n impartiĆ³ clases en el Colegio FrancĆ©s y en el Anglo EspaƱol, ambas escuelas privadas.
En 1985, se convierte en Licenciada en EducaciĆ³n FĆsica por la Escuela Superior de EducaciĆ³n FĆsica.
La Escuela de Normal de Maestros de Bruselas la invitĆ³ a dar clases durante todo un mes.
Se jubila en 2003, despuƩs de 56 aƱos de trabajar para el gobierno federal.
La otra hija de Luz MarĆa, RocĆo, trabaja Avemex, empresa de aviaciĆ³n privada. Ambas crecieron con el fuerte ejemplo de su madre. Luz MarĆa tiene tres adorables nietos.

The mother of the Mexican Consul in Del RĆo, Texas, Paloma VillaseƱor, turned 100 years old.
Mrs. Luz MarĆa Vargas de la Cruz was born on April 20, 1922. Dance was her passion.
His first performance was in her father's birthday. She was only 4 years old and the audience was her fatherās bosses, at the Pullman Train Company.
Luz Maria (called by her loved ones, Lucha), attended elementary at the French-English School. She took her dance lessons at the School of Dance of the National Institute of Fine Arts.
At age 15 upon graduating from the School of Dance, the Director of Fine Arts Institute refused to grant her the title of Dance teacher. His reasoning was that she was still too young and still wore flappers therefore no one would have respect for her.
The Director of the School of Dance, Nelly Campobello, told the Director that "either they added 2 years to her career, or they put some tights on this girl". Finally, she managed to get her title signed.
She was one of the first professional women, one of the first working women, one of the first women who drove and was able to buy a car and, without a doubt, a woman who opened doors for future generations of women in Mexico.
Lucha was sent to teach at the National School of Physical Education (ENEF) however, the Director said that she could not teach a group of 28 boys older than her. He authorized it on the condition that he would sit at the back of the room for a month to watch her teaching her class.
On September 1, 1947, she was registered with the Secretary of Physical Education and appointed Professor of Physical Education.
Lucha went on to have a very productive career in teaching: between 1955 and 1985, she was: Dance Teacher, Professor of Classical Dance Techniques and Regional Dances, Physical Education, Head of the Artistic Area, Supervisor of Physical Education Teachers, Manager for Registration of Titles and Professional Certificates; Member of the Social Services Commission at the National School of Physical Education and the National School of Teachers.
She was appointed to these positions by the National Institute of Fine Arts (INBA) and endorsed by the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).
She also taught at private schools such as the Colegio FrancƩs del Pedregal and the Anglo-Mexicano School.
In 1985, she got her title in Physical Education from the Higher School of Physical Education.
The Teachers' Normal School in Brussels invited her to teach dance for a whole month.
She retired in 2003 after 56 years of working for the federal government.
Luz Maria also has another daughter, RocĆo. She works for Avemex, a private aviation company. Both Paloma and Rocio grew up with her strong example. Lucha has three good looking grandsons.
We wish her more years to live, in good health and spirits.
